I can tell you’ve put more thought into his scenes than me, though, so I apologize if I’m grossly overlooking something! When they’ve just been fired and get into their big fight about it, there could have been so much more weight behind Jonathan’s side of things if we’d only gotten to actually see something of his experience. It felt like such an obvious move they could have made in season 3, to parallel Nancy’s problems (which are shown to us very clearly). Honestly, this is something about Jonathan I wish they’d go into a bit more, especially since they haven’t really done much with him lately. It shapes his reality into something noticeably different from any of the other teens. And if nothing else, you can tell in every single season that the pressure to be there for and support his family never goes away, even if neither he nor his family really comment on it. I get the sense that he does sincerely want to be there for his family, especially Will, but at least in season 1 you can also see how it wears on him to have to be the responsible one when his mom appears to be rejecting reality and he has to be the one picking out a coffin and arranging the funeral. I personally find it hard to say what Jonathan really wants, especially because it feels like he hasn’t really been in focus since season 1. I actually made this account just to put this out there, but I really thought it would just disappear unnoticed down into the depths of Tumblr somewhere. Or at least no one did anywhere I could find it. I’ve been thinking what I wrote here for so long, and I kept waiting to see someone else say it, and then no one did. Oh wow, I’m so glad you found this somehow?

I’m going to ramble a bunch here, but basically: I really appreciate and love this thought experiment.
#Hey you get your damn hands off her gif how to
I have been starving for a take like this and have been obsessed with the idea of how to “fix” season 4 in a way that aligns with canon but feels more natural, and frankly, has better execution.

There are two main problems, in my view, with the way the love triangle is set up. Twentytwothings: Thoughts on the Steve-Nancy-Jonathan love triangle of season 4
